This week I had the incredible pleasure of interviewing the owner and creator of Orlando’s Driftwood Market -Bonnie! Just a little overview, basically she runs the CUTEST DIY Driftwood Market – hosting craft parties, selling ADORABLE rustic crafts, you name it.
Let’s jump right into this!
Bonnie, Tell the readers a little more about yourself.
My name is Bonnie & I am a mom, entrepreneur, artist, marketer, buyer, cook, maid, nurse & anything else that may fall under the job description of ‘Mom’ and ‘Boss Lady’.
Where are you currently working? What projects are you currently working on?
I own Driftwood Market, Orlando’s favorite little gift boutique, located in College Park. Although I have an eclectic background including work in microbiology & behavior consulting, I have always had an entrepreneurial spirit. My best friend & I dreamed up the idea for Driftwood Market in her basement, one evening, & began laying the groundwork for what has become Orlando’s favorite gift boutique. We originally began as an online-only gift boutique offering custom items & monogrammed gifts. Although she and I no longer operate the business together, the name is still a tribute to her & our dream of creating a boutique based upon stellar customer service & the best hand curated collection of goods. Since becoming a brick & mortar boutique, I have brought my mom on as a business partner and we operate as a family business, in the truest sense.
Where do you see yourself in the future?
Driftwood Market is in the process of expanding to new markets, which we are absolutely thrilled about! Stay tuned for a major announcement, later this month!
Tell us a fun childhood memory!
Most of my fondest childhood memories involve just being a kid. Playing outside, being with friends & family, being silly with our mom & hanging with my brothers.
Tell the readers a fun fact about yourself!
Fun fact: I moonlight as an occasional dog trainer, relying on my background in behavior & previous experience owning an animal behavior consulting practice.
What woman do you look up to the most? Why?
I look up to my four girls more than anyone. Seeing the world through their eyes is a treasured gift. The innocence, joy & kindness they possess is truly inspiring. It is my goal through all of this that they are able to take a few lessons from the hardships & rewards I have experienced in entrepreneurship. I want them to know that hard work pays off. Turning every sour lemon into lemonade isn’t an easy task, but it is one that I firmly believe in teaching them through observation.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever gotten? Why?
The best piece of advice I have ever been given came from my dad and has to do with perspective. Every situation we are in can be viewed in a number of ways and his take is that ‘it can always be worse’. We always have something to be thankful for. As he says ‘it is what it is’ and you simply move on.
What’s one piece of advice you’d give other women?
I would say to any woman toying with the idea of owning her own business: DO IT. Believe in yourself and take the leap-there’s time to look later. Build that empire. I promise, you won’t regret it.
Lastly your favorite quote!
My favorite quote. For a girl with an entire collection devoted to ‘quotes’ on my phone, that is a loaded question. It depends on my mood, but I have a TON of quotes that I live by. Currently, I’d have to say I’m crushing on these two: ‘Be somebody who makes everyone feel like a somebody’~Unknown as well as ‘The best people possess a feeling for beauty, the courage to take risks, the discipline to tell the truth & the capacity for sacrifice’~Hemingway.
Bonnie is truly such an inspiration to women starting their own businesses. She just recently expanded her store to include a brand new location! I honestly wish this place was around when I was planning my wedding; can you imagine just how cute a bridal shower here would be?? #ladiesnight #everynight Check her store out and her new location here!
