Life Hack : 5 Must Have Amazon Dog Products That I Can’t Live Without

5 Must Have Amazon Pet Products That I Can’t Live Without

Tinsel (my pup) and I are bit of adventurers. We love the outdoors; swimming, kayaking, hiking and traveling to new cities all over the U.S. With all of our travels in the books, there are some pet products on Amazon that I could not live without and have really saved us.

0E499904-371A-4EF8-88E0-ABBC14A381E6

The best step-in harness! I always put Tinsel in a full body harness when we are out hiking or kayaking. I cannot tell you honestly how many times she has gotten stuck in the mud or needed help getting over a log. Having a harness with a handle on the back has been an incredible investment

A pop up bowl. I actually have two of these! I keep one in my purse for traveling and the second is always clipped to my daypack for hiking. No extra weight or equipment needed to give Tinsel a drink. When we stop for water breaks I just unclip and we can share a bottle of water.

This pad healer. Because I’m an over protective dog Mom, I always keep this dog balm in my purse. There have been so many times when we are exploring a new city and Tinsel cracks a pad on her paw. I know it’s a bit expensive ($19 for one stick), but trust me this has saved us. This pad healer is great because it basically comes in a deodorant stick, with a nice neat cap. Pop the cap off, rub it on her feet and POOF perfectly healed and ready for our next adventure.

Treats!! This product is Tinsel’s pick. She can get exhausted, so a good nutritious pick-me-up is always good to carry. Check out my favorite treats here. These treats are high in protein, so they give her a good boost of energy!

I love this cooling vest! We live in Florida, our weather is HOT all year so we are always careful with hiking during the summer. Keeping Tinsel in this cooling vest gives us less worry of her overheating.

Life Hack : 5 Cheap Things Off Of Amazon Make Your Home Look Like a Million Bucks

5 Cheap Things Off Of Amazon Make Your Home Look Like a Million Bucks

These are the top 5 things that make my home look like a million bucks, but I spent VERY little on. Of course these are all items that I already have in my home but they do include affiliate links!

(I get a little compensation for writing these articles, if you purchase the items listed)

  1. Oversized throw pillows with bright printed color. What makes a home look put together, is beautiful pops of sophisticated pints, like these pillows. Mix and match colors and prints; these make guests think I actually spent time and effort on my home but REALLY I just two-day-shipped these and threw them on my sofa (If I’m being honest).
  2. Centerpieces. Cheap, small centerpieces make the room put together. Opt for a large vase on your dinning room table like this one and fill it with florals depending on the season (sunflowers for summer, wheat grass for fall ETC).
  3. Double Whammy, add a wax melter into your decor. Pick out something cute like this electric white lantern and add in your favorite scents. It looks great with your decor and also make your home smell wonderful.
  4. Curtains! I discovered these the other day and they changed my life! Anyone else rent a condo with those horrible vertical blinds covering sliding glass doors? Look at this no-install option for curtains instead. Pop the hooks over the vertical blind railing, add a curtain rod and hang curtains. Trust me, it makes our rented condo feel like a real home.
  5. Never underestimate the addition of a good house plant. Big leaved plants like this rubber tree add so much character and color to a room ALL WHILE filtering out toxins. ANOTHER DOUBLE WHAMMY 😉😉

Exploring the Orlando Neighborhood : Absolutly Must See Things In Gainsville, Florida

This weekend I was blessed with a three day weekend!! #BLESSED. So my husband and I decided to spend the weekend in Gainsville, Florida. (About a two hour drive from our home city in Orlando).

Kind of a random city to stop in if you are visiting Florida, but believe me it’s worth the time. Especially those who are into more outdoor activities like hiking, like our family!

F05B4455-A23B-417C-B7A6-67D6E836CDB3.jpeg

We arrived in Gainsville around 8:30AM and landed in the Devil’s Millhoper Geolgical State Park. The trail head is unmanned by park staff, you will need to leave your $4 for parking/entrance fees in the “trailhead” evenvelope box at the entrance to the parking lot.

Walk towards the restrooms/state park ranger booth; the trailhead is directly behind the building. This is a very very short trail, just under a mile loop. Perfectly shaded and pretty cool even in these “summer” like temperatures. This trail is completely dog friendly too. The worst part though? Because of hurricane damage and lack of funding, the staircases down into the sinkhole were closed. But it still an absolutely breath taking trail.

This trail completely transports you to Tennessee hiking; with hills, bluffs and even waterfalls. If you are stopping near Gainsville, put this site on your bucket list! Check out their website here. Be sure to pack plenty of water and bug spray!

Just a PSA: Even on short trails like this (AND EVEN with cell phone signal), I ALWAYS carry my pack. I carry a small first aid kit, a water bladder, a pop-up bowl for Tinsel and plenty of sunscreen and bug spray. It’s better to be prepared, then not be prepared at all 😘😘

Our next stop was the Kanapaha Botanical Gardens (a 15 minute drive from Milhopper). We arrived around 9:45AM and the parking lot was virtually empty (ON A SATURDAY TOO).  Another completely dog friendly activity! Check out their website here. Admission will cost you $8 for adults and $4 for children.

Pull into their shaded parking lot and walk right into the lobby. The State Park staff was so welcoming and SUPER dog friendly (they even had dog biscuits on their counter!). Walk right into the lobby to check in, pay admission and be sure to grab a map!

We started off wandering through a bamboo forest. Then walking our way into their exapansive herb garden. If you are bring your pup, be sure to stop in the herb garden. Tinsel was overwhelmed by all of the smells, textures and tastes. We wandered into the kids garden, a butterfly garden and even a cactus greenhouse. We spent about 3 hours in this park, we were so captivated by all of the different areas and gardens.

There are so many wonderful things to do in Gainsville, Florida > be sure to add this small town in Florida to your next trip. We fell in love with all of this town had to offer; from bamboo forests to captivating waterfalls.

Life Hack : 3 Habits of Hight Effective Homemakers

If I am being honest, I’m a bit uptight about my home. I force people to take their shoes off when they come into my house and always use coasters 🤷🏻‍♀️. I even go too far and have “inside” and “outside” clothes. (Does anyone else do this???)

img_0462

I’ve probably said this before, but I’m BUSY. Like BUSY BUSY. Family, two jobs and still trying to find time for myself? But there’s one thing that I always make sure to do: keeping our home neat and tidy. For some reason, even when I’m having an incredibly busy week, it’s calming to know my home is well kept.

Here’s my three secrets that you can implement in your own homes! I hope these work well for you too!

  1. Save money and invest in technology that can help you clean. You can invest in a rumba to vacuum your home while you are at work or <a href="http://Try Amazon Home Services“>take it a step further and ask for help! FROM AMAZON! They have a brand new program that you actually hire a person to help you out with tasks at home! Have that piece of IKEA furniture that’s been “on your list” for the past month, hire someone for $20 to come out and lend you a hand.
  2. 15 minutes is all it takes. Take 15 minutes before you go to bed at night and pick everything up. Start the dishwasher, start a load of wash and rearrange the living room throw pillows. Spend the time each day and you won’t have to worry about it over the weekend. Here is the link to both my morning and night time routines. My husband and I love to make a game of our nightly “pick up” time, set a timer and see how quickly we can get everything done.
  3. Divide and conquer. My husband and I divide our chores up, he loves to the laundry (he’s weird) and I’ll pick up Tinsel’s toys; splitting up chores always makes the job easier. If you have roommates, make a chore chart and ask everyone to pitch in! Check out this great, cheap chore chart on Amazon! This chore chart is absolutly adorable and affordable! I mean, who doesn’t love chalkboard everything? 🙋🏻‍♀️

Woman Crush Wednesday : Diving into the life of the woman behind “Modern Dating 101”

Is this crazy or what > this is my very first time interviewing another blogger! Not only just a blogger, but the creator of Modern Dating 101! I am so incredibly honored to get to interview this blogger and share her story with you!

So let’s jump right into the interview!

If you want to skip ahead to the good stuff 👉🏻 Check out her website here!

Surprisingly this is my first time interviewing another blogger! Tell us about you and your blog!

I’m the first blogger interview! I am honoured ❤ yay! 🙂

I’m a single mama of 3. I live in Southern Ontario, Canada in the Niagara Region, about 20 minutes from Niagara Falls. I’ve been here for 14 years and absolutely love it. I grew up as somewhat as a gypsy and I was always moving from place to place and never really laying any roots. When I started to grow and develop my own family, I made a commitment to myself and my kids that I would give them consistency, stability, and the opportunity to set roots and build lifelong relationships.

I work full-time in an administrative role and I run a blog about life, love, relationships, motherhood, and my experiences around building my business. I also recently opened an online boutique, which I am super pumped about.

How did you get started writing? What inspires you to keep pushing forward?

I’ve always been a writer at heart. I started writing when I was in grade school. I was bullied a lot and had a very tumultuous childhood, and terrible anxiety. One of my counselors at the time suggested that I start journaling as a way to unload the thoughts in my head. I did this for many years. It helped me tremendously. I stopped writing over the last few years, but recently started back up again. I use writing as a means to keep my creativity flowing. Being able to release feelings through my words helps to alleviate a lot of inner turmoil and stress. I get stuck in my head a lot and have a hard time expressing myself otherwise, so writing helps keep me in balance and my brain in check. Writing is a great form of therapy!

This interview series is all about inspiring women. What woman inspires you?

I have so many women in my life that inspire me. I’ve made a conscious effort over the last few years of my life to surround myself with positive, inspiring, and uplifting women. In doing so, I have managed to create a nice tribe of powerful women that are moving mountains and busting ceilings with what they do.  I have a friend who left her high-paying government job to open a gluten-free bakery in the city here. She jumped in with both feet and she showed up for her dreams and she just keeps knocking it out of the park. Watching her grow and develop not just as a business woman, but as a person, has been incredibly inspiring for me. To see one of your greatest friends succeed so well at doing what she loves is enough to keep anyone moving forward.

Besides working on your blog, what are your other hobbies?

My kids, does that count? haha I doubt it, but for real. My kids are my life. They are the reason I do what I do and why I am so determined to create a successful business. As a single mom, life is tough, but that doesn’t stop me, it fuels me. I want them to be able to look back on life when times get tough for them and think, damn, if Mom could do all that she did ON HER OWN, then I can do this myself too. Other than spending every possible moment with my kids and my blog, I try to get on my yoga mat as much as possible. If writing is my counselor, yoga is my therapist. They both keep me balanced and sane.

How do you balance your work and life? Are there any tips you’d like too share with the readers?

Seeing as I am pretty new to the whole blogging world, balance has been a bit of a slippery slope. I was working a part-time job on top pf my full-time job, but I recently let that go so I could focus more of my energy and attention on creating better content. Spending quality time with my kids is of the utmost importance to me, obviously. They know and understand that I have to work while we are together, but I do my best to limit my engagement with work until they go to bed. Generally this means later nights for me, but it is what it is.
Schedulers and auto-posters have helped significantly in keeping active on social media without actually BEING active and ON all the time. I use Tailwind for my Pinterest account. Instagram is generally more of a manual post because I am not entirely ready to pass that control over to a scheduler just yet.
I am working on creating an actual schedule to keep me on track so I am not as all over the place. I generally post on my blog on Thursday’s and Sunday’s because I have time in those evenings to write undisturbed. I dedicate the evenings my kids are with their Dad to scheduling as many posts as possible and getting a forecast of what I will be writing about  in coming days.

What would be your ideal future? What would you like to see your business grow into?

I have set the intention to replace my full-time income with my part-time hustle by summer 2018. My goal is to be able to spend more time at home with my family. As you may have noticed, my kids are my life so being there for them whenever they need me is my priority. As of right now, I work away from the home 40+ hours a week and my schedule is not flexible so I miss a lot of their school events, awards, sick days, etc. My mom has been a big help for me as she is there to help them out and be there for them when I can’t, but I feel like I need to be there with them. I recently started an online fashion boutique as well, so I hope to be able to write and run my shop from home and start travelling later this year. Ideally, I’d like to create an empire that I can one day hand down to my kids, should they want it, but more importantly I want it to be able to not only support our life, but also allow us to live out our dreams. I want to be able to travel the world and show my kids all the amazing stuff there is to see on our beautiful planet.

What advice would you give other women starting their own businesses?

Just do it. You will never be entirely “ready.”  There will always be something else that will pop up and take priority. There will ALWAYS be something else. You already have all the information you need right now to get started, you can learn the rest along the way. Trust me, you will NEVER know it all. When I started writing I was bombarded with information that I didn’t even know that I should know and that was ok! It was overwhelming at first, of course, but I managed and I am still managing. I read through and watched what I can, I take what I need and I file the rest away. As an online entrepreneur, things are constantly changing from algorithm to terms, trends, platforms, etc. Don’t be afraid to jump in and get dirty. You will not get it all right the first time and you shouldn’t expect that all will be perfect in the beginning because it won’t be. It will be messy and dirty and you will screw up, but as long as you are open to learn and be guided, you will be just fine. Trust the process. Trust yourself.

Tell us a funny fact about yourself!

Fun fact about me… I’m a serial entrepreneur. I can’t sit still for too long or I get anxious. I need to keep learning and keep my mind active. I’m a self-help junkie. I’m addicted to audiobooks and podcasts, lol.

Let’s finish this off with your favorite inspirational quote!

I have so many inspirational quotes that help me get through my days… My vocabulary revolves around sarcasm, quotes and laughter. I’ll give you a couple and you can take which ones you like the best 😉
“Those who matter won’t mind and those who mind won’t matter.” Dr. Seuss
“we are all broken, that’s how the light gets in.” Rumi
“If you aren’t in the arena also getting your ass kicked, I am not interested in your feedback.” Brene Brown
(I kept them all because I loved them  😏)

Healthy Living : 10 Ways To Get Your Best Nights Sleep Tonight! 😴

10 Ways To Get Your Best Nights Sleep Tonight

With two full time jobs and a family to take care of, life can get in the ways of a good nights sleep. I don’t know about you, but at night I can never seem to shut it off. Remember that time I scared off that poor girl over chicken sandwiches? My mind just spins through stories, interactions ETC. Does this happen to anyone else??

1BA32F5C-7848-4D30-95AD-DBA7476EFA8A.jpeg

ANYWAYS. Meanless to say I’m pretty much an expert (qoute me on that) on not sleeping. So here we go! Just a few of my tips and tricks on how I help myself to fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer. I hope they help you too!

  1. I stop drinking any sort of caffeine after 12PM, allowing my body to filter out the coffee or matcha that I’ve had. I stick to decaffeinated teas or coffee before bed if I’m still craving it. Here’s a list of my favorite stress-relieving teas!
  2. I always practice yoga before bed. If I’m exhausted I at least push myself to stretch for 15 minutes or more. This allows my muscles to release any tensions from sitting cooped up in my office all day. I’ve probably mentioned this little gem before, but here’s my favorite yoga mat!
  3. I schedule a little “me time” every night by taking a long, relaxing hot bath. To help me really relax, I add in lavender epson salts to my bath too.
  4. Turn off your electronics and read a book! An hour before bed time, I shut off everything; my phone, Apple Watch, TV, music. I even talk it a step further and start dimming the lights. Here’s a book that I just did a review on!
  5. Set a bed time and keep it. While your at it, set a morning alarm. Check out this adorable alarm clock option from Amazon!
  6. Part of my worries that keeps me up at night is stress about the next morning. (I know that sounds crazy) So I set myself up for success; preset the coffee maker, pick out your clothes, pack your lunch and clean up your home > sometimes I even wear my gym clothes to bed so I’m ready to pop up and go! Being prepared = Less Stress = Falling asleep faster.
  7. I’m not in anyway sponsored by this company, but I cannot live without it. Download the “Calm” app on your IPhone or Tablet and it will change your life too. The app offers guided meditations, calming music, white noise AND sleep stories. If you are like me and have a hard time falling asleep fast enough, select “Today’s Sleep Story” and you are guaranteed to fall deep asleep within minutes. Try out their free trial today!
  8. Turn down the temp! My husband and I always tap the AC to 65-70 at night. Cooler temperatures help you fall asleep faster too. Amazon currently has a deal going on with their Bluetooth enabled AC thermostat, you can check out the deal here and be able to change your home temp from bed!
  9. (Don’t get me wrong, I love my husband). But, we are not compatible sleeping partners. Who really is though? My husband sleeps like a little bear > hot, spread out and snoring like he’s in hibernation. Me I sleep cold, curled up with Tinsel wrapped in my own heavy weighted comforter (see the blanket I use here). Everyone sleeps differently, so get your own damn blanket. (Trust me).
  10. Can I tell you more about my blanket? I suffer from severe anxiety. Tinsel does the best she can (as my service dog), to weigh me down > she lays her heavy body on me to calm me. Sometimes, it’s just not enough. I also sleep with a weighted comforter. The weight is soothing and still manages to keep me cool > seriously check the blanket out here.
  11. Bonus tip that you’ll love: Dark Chocolate as a late night snack. Personally? I like the baking dark chocolate chips. I place a bag in the freezer and have a table spoon before bed. Physically, chocolate is filled with those “feel good hormones” and helps me to relax. See my favorite chocolate here.

What are your favorite sleep remedies? I would love to hear about them in the comments below! Have you ever tried any of mine? Feel free to message me on our Facebook Community Page at The Tangled Tinsel! I’d like to hear if they worked or not!
